On Saturday, February 1, 2025, the Esquires attended the Black College Expo & Honda Battle of the Bands, diving into the vibrant culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). They explored over 100 HBCU booths, discovering unique academic opportunities and hearing firsthand experiences from students and alumni. The event also featured the Honda Battle of the Bands, where six top HBCU bands wowed the crowd with electrifying performances, showcasing the incredible talent and school spirit these institutions foster.

Inaugural MLK Service Roundup

On Sunday, January 19, 2024, we held our Inaugural MLK Service Roundup. Originally planned to collect winter items for a local homeless shelter, the event pivoted to gathering essential items and gift cards for families impacted by recent fires in our area.

Thanks to the generosity of community members, we were able to collect a wide range of donations, including food, toiletries, blankets, and gift cards, all of which were directly distributed to those in need. The event was a huge success, and we are grateful for the support from volunteers, donors, and local businesses.

This successful round-up not only helped families affected by the fires but also reflected Dr. King’s legacy of service and community. We look forward to continuing this tradition and organizing more opportunities to give back in the future.

Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make this event impactful!

10th Annual Alpha Esquires Pancake Breakfast

The 10th Annual Pancake Breakfast was held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, during the MLK Weekend. The event was a huge success and brought together families and community members for a morning of delicious food and meaningful fellowship.

Esquires worked hard to ensure everything ran smoothly, from preparing and serving breakfast to creating a welcoming atmosphere for all. This year’s event marked a decade of the fundraiser—what better way to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service and community.

Guests enjoyed a hearty breakfast of pancakes, sausage, and more, while reflecting on Dr. King’s vision for equality and unity. The support from parents, local businesses, and the community made this event possible and impactful.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s 11th Annual Pancake Breakfast and appreciate everyone who attended and helped make this milestone event a success!

2024 Annual Christmas Toy Giveaway

On Thursday, December 19, 2024, Esquires and Mentors played an essential role in the annual Christmas Toy Giveaway, working alongside community members to make the event a success. We assisted with organizing, sorting, and distributing a diverse selection of toys and gifts to families in need, ensuring that each child received a thoughtful and meaningful gift this holiday season.

The Toy Giveaway not only spread holiday cheer but also reminded us all of the power of collective effort in making a positive impact. It was a beautiful example of how giving back can bring people together, strengthen bonds, and uplift those in need during the most wonderful time of the year.

Pan African Beach Day – Intro to Surfing

On October 15, 2023, the Alpha Esquires partnered with the Black Surfers Collective to participate in our very first Pan African Beach Day – An Intro to Surfing. An amazing time was had. Some of the boys had rarely frequented the beach and surely had never been on a surfboard. One of the missions of Alpha Esquires Inc. is to provide our mentees with experiences outside of their normal routine. Surfing was definitely an unique adventure which left each mentee eagerly awaiting their next lesson.

The Definition of Manhood

On September 23, 2023, we had our first workshop of the season, “The Definition of Manhood” facilitated by Taquan Stewart Phd. What an event! The classroom was packed and the energy was high. Dr Stewart had the boys participate in a fire writing session which resulted in them defining how they believed a man should behave. Through a series of poems and videos, the Esquires walked away with tools they could use daily. It was wonderful to see them work together to achieve a common goal.
